Poor form and scientific modeling

I was trying to think of an analogy for a problem that has become very widespread these days.

The basic idea is that when you play a sport at an amateur level, you can get away with a lot of mistakes / sloppiness, and win by athleticism alone. But as you scale it up, and reach higher levels of difficulty, these same mistakes will cripple you and prevent you from advancing: you'll lose to people who may be less talented, but know how to do things properly.

And if you go on for too long that way, you'll be in a situation where you'll have to choose between being stuck at whatever point you max out at, and never progressing in the future, or being forced to go back to fundamentals and relearn everything from scratch, a very expensive and time-consuming process.

The reason why a good instructor is so harsh on these things isn't because they're mean or out to get you specifically (at least, not in most cases) but because weeding these mistakes out early saves a ton of time later, and at a small cost, compared to allowing them to fester.

The same is true for language acquisition, and really most types of learning in general.

Ironically enough, this can mean that sometimes the worst players at higher levels are the most gifted or talented ones, at the amateur level-- their raw talent allows them to avoid getting punished for mistakes, which means they never bother learning, and this in turn cripples them when they move up to a new level of difficulty where these trivial things actually do matter. (See the whole gifted student -> pizza deliverer pipeline for proof in another subject.)

The way that I see it being relevant for science is that often people with high IQs but no actual knowledge can experience a ton of success in life, without bothering to formally study anything. Unfortunately they then assume that the same combination of 'intuition + raw intelligence' will help them in building mental models or solving problems at much higher levels. But they are actually crippled by naive assumptions and sloppy habits which-- due to their lack of experience-- they cannot even detect (though a trained professional could), and so they are doomed to spend their time crashing into predictable walls, and getting stuck there forever.

Look at the ongoing and probably never-ending inflationary meltdown, or the AI bubble-- ultra-expensive models are constructed by pseudo-experts who congratulate themselves for their visionary genius, only to fail in the most basic and predictable ways.

  1. And without wanting to be rude, but Rintrah's effortposts perfectly exemplify this kind of clueless / retarded / blind approach.

The major obvious problem is the refusal to build a formal mathematical model, and reliance on verbal reasoning and assumptions alone, when studying dynamic systems-- such as the human brain, climate change, etc.

Unfortunately for the pure wordcels, complex systems are capable of a very wide range of behavior, where naive verbal assumptions can turn out to be totally false or misleading, which is why they need to be studied with more advanced tools. You can't describe them just with words.

This leads to a reliance on studies and BIG DAYTA to compensate for the lack of a formal model, but this really just boils down to looking at inputs and outputs, and trying to deduce the behavior of the system from there-- groping around blindly in the dark. You need equations relating these variables to each other, so you can see how things change over time.

Another problem is zooming in, rather than zooming out-- you miss the forest for the trees (no less true because it happens to be a cliche)-- and you also make the mistake of adding variables to the model, since micro-micro-micro details which may not be relevant, interesting, or important stand out more when you look at things in that detail, which violates the emphasis on parsimony and excluding irrelevant things from the model.

The combination of all these errors results in totally retarded / hallucinatory conclusions.

  2. To give a more specific example of the lack of theory, a frequent genre of posts there is to look at the growth rates for various populations-- Euros shrinking, some group of Africans growing massively-- and then just project those statically into the future.

Conclusion: Euros will die off, Africans inherit the Earth. And then inject that shit straight into the junkies' veins, so they can overdose on the doom aspect of it (or vice versa, if on the based racist side).

This is actually like being on top of a wave that is rising, and concluding that you'll eventually reach the stratosphere, before it starts to fall and you conclude that you'll be buried underneath layers and layers of sand. And then repeating that process over and over again on a new wave, endlessly.

Rintrah-- and his audience-- have never even heard of the logistic growth (also commonly known as the S-curve), which is the most basic equation in ecology, and they have never read the literature applying it to various case studies in the natural world. And so they don't know that real-world populations don't just grow forever in one direction (whether positive or negative): they're not static.

Naive assumptions + total and complete ignorance of basic theory -> retarded / hallucinated conclusions.

  3. Another specific example I've discussed on this blog, repeatedly, is all this slop about drugs. This is incredibly triggering, precisely because the whole edifice is built on a totally false set of assumptions, and then reaches one of the most absurd conclusions of all time-- you should regularly take higher and higher doses of random / poorly-understood drugs, and even combine them, in order to enjoy health and longevity.

It's incredibly offensive, even to someone who has only dabbled in neuroscience, LOL.

They can't even understand that in a dynamic system, something that can start out as harmless / beneficial in small doses-- which is in fact true of many, many drugs which are nonetheless incredibly harmful and dangerous-- can totally spiral out of control as you scale it up.

The fact that the input (small dose) results in a positive output (higher mental health, in small sample sizes) literally tells you nothing about the overall behavior, and in fact sounds very similar to other substances which are (as I said) actually very harmful.

But naive retards have never studied basic theory, so they don't know facts like this, which is why they reach absurd conclusions based on 'the dayta' and 'the studies'-- even learning the ABCs of the subject is beneath these high-IQ morons.

  4. Amusingly enough, a lot of autistes congratulate themselves on not being into Marvelslop like the normies, but they've actually fallen for one of the biggest Hollywood cliches-- that of the ugly, misunderstood, loner genius. They think that what is actually a crippling mental illness (akin to retardation or schizophrenia) is in reality a form of intelligence.

Then they get mad at reality when nobody (except for other mentally-ill people) treats them like they're special, smart, or insightful-- instead of realizing the obvious, which is that if nobody calls you smart, you're probably not smart (lol). But this is too big of a blow to their masturbatory, pretentious, persona and inflated egos, so they choose to project their own slop onto others, rather than look critically at themselves.

What's happened is that today's authorities have done these clowns a disservice: by repeatedly emphasizing that their deviant, sick, mentally-ill nature is umm akshually a form of giftedness, they've become set in their ways, and their dysfunctional habits have become 'baked in', which actually just leadsa to more rather than less misery in life.

With no intuition and no ability to learn (too arrogant / retarded), they can't filter out and immediately spot ideas that are schizo, counter-productive, worthless, and so they're like blind wanderers who are doomed to never find anything, and keep on doing the same pointless things over and over again, rather than discover anything interesting.

(Also, and as far as I can tell, pairing autism with high IQ just accentuates these problems and leads to a more articulate, sophisticated, mentally-ill outcome, as opposed to the banal schizoslop-- usually about video-games-- that the lower IQ ones churn out. But it's more of a difference of degree, rather than kind.)

  5. Another very common form of delusion on my slop-feed is this whole genre of stuff talking about how 'Quitting' and 'doing your own thing' (AKA, doing drugs and playing video-games all day) is actually owning society and being a true independent non-conformist— it's always sad and pathetic to note how many Millennials and Zoomers are basically consumed by delusions of protagonism, even as most older people view them as an identical homogeneous blob (what they in fact are).

The ironic truth is that if you are a young man who is dropping out of society, doing no work, and not studying— just playing games all day, and drugging yourself to avoid feelings of boredom— you are THE RULE, not the exception.

There is no more perfect embodiment of the herd, than some dumb retard who thinks of himself as exceptional, while living a (sadly) all too common existence. Actual nonconformity, independence, standing out... speaks for itself, and doesn't require stating endlessly or explicitly.

If you have to tell us that you're this or that trait, you're not and never will be.

  6. Not to mention the total cope of equating being a masturbating shut-in -> non-conformist explorer.

This is another sad aspect of how things have devolved in the present: people are incapable of taking stock of themselves, and viewing their own vices as... well, vices. They instead lie to themselves about how their vices are virtues, and then try to collectively demand praise for behavior which should be condemned.

It really goes to show you what absolute faggots today's dudes are— passive lifeless shut-ins who are addicted to complaining, and can't even tell the truth to themselves. And then they demand respect! LOL.

  7. A lot of the climate change stuff also strikes me as an example where, zooming out, it seems as if the people paid to solve the problem actually stand in the way of implementing an effective solution— you'd be surprised, or perhaps not, at how common this has become.

What none of the different sides in the retarded debate mention is that Europe and Asia / Africa's emissions are interlinked— it's not the Midecentury anymore, and manufacturing has been progressively off-shored from the 1st world ever since the Neoliberal Revolution, and really accelerating massively after the 2000s (WTO) and 2008 (recession and fake recovery).

So a lot of Europe's emissions actually occur in Asia, since that's where those 1st world firms have chosen to do their production. And a lot of Asia's emissions are actually European in origin-- when Vietnam or India or Malaysia's contribution to climate change grows by 2000% in one decade, it's not because they developed a thriving industrial sector. They're just where the corporate parasites are currently operating.

This ironically means that whatever rates are implemented to limit European emissions, will actually prevent the re-shoring of industry, which makes environmental stewardship impossible— the sector responsible for the most pollution will be forced to remain in 3rd world countries with no regulations, and so emissions will continue to skyrocket anyways.

(Not to mention that none of the bans, taxes, etc can ever hope to put a dent in the problem, which reduces them to pointless suffering for the sake of suffering-- the kind of school shooter / torturer slop that leftoids specialize in.)

  8. In Peter Turchin's model of elite overproduction, the bureaucrats are the predators (ironically enough, given how meek and submissive they are IRL) whose growth is derived at the expense of the common people, and accompanies periods of state breakdown, population collapse, hyper-polarization-- sound familiar?

Implementing these non-solutions siphons the income of the working and middle classes into the hands a group of mediocre credentialed morons, while keeping the engine of popular immiseration going (off-shoring / financialization).

And their approach is also anti-fragile-- the bigger the problems gets, the more they themselves can grow and soak up funding. And by not solving it, and in fact restricting themselves solely to non-solutions, they can in fact continue eating resources forever!

Or at least, until you hit a crisis period, where there aren't enough resources left in the society to sustain such elevated levels of elites... and the whole thing just starts to tumble off a cliff, like it's doing now.

  9. An autistic retard would of course dismiss this as a conspiracy theory, but keep in mind that in real life, it's perfectly possible for people to reach similar conclusions and act the same way, without necessarily having a formal / explicit understanding.

In biology, this is known as self-organization.

And this also explains the hostility of the LSWM types to the climate bureaucrats-- they may not be very articulate, but they have skin-in-the-game, and can detect who their enemies are. They know that cooperating with the agenda -> allowing for predation, and so their hostility to that stuff won't change, regardless of how many lectures they get.

  10. It goes back to what I've said before on this blog, but Restore Britain -> same-old same-old neolib crap, and won't produce any different outcome in the system. Their various paid propagandists are whipping up support as we speak, but if those posers get voted in, it'll be literally no different from the status quo, or perhaps even result in the kind of neocon-on-steroids (or ketamine) stuff we have here in the US, an intensification of the status quo.

It's very telling that their propaganda caters exclusively to nerds, with all kinds of geeky references to LOTR and online memes: the most pathetic and anti-social people in any society, and who therefore are the *least* likely to push for anything concrete in the real world.

Just buy them off with a diet of cheap AI slop (similar to the garbage they eat IRL) and some AI-generated VR Revenge Fantasy Porn— and they'll sit back and accept the disintegration and destruction of their country, just under BASED RIGHT-WING billionaires and their lobby groups, rather than the woke left. As long as they get to fry their dopamine receptors a little, why give a shit if the reality is the total opposite of their goals?

I also never hear them blame, or whine about (nerds are not really masculine enough to muster up a very confrontational tone) neoliberalism / Reaganism / Thatcherism, even if it's entirely appropriate in their context— instead they heap all the blame on PoStWaR LiBeRaLiSm, an ideology that has been dead for 50+ years, which their predecessors dismantled, and which has absolutely nothing to do with why things are fucked up in the present.

Go back and look at the graphs, for just about everything they whine about (de-industrialization, ballooning debt, immigration, divorce, etc) and tell me when these trends started— the evil left-wing 1950s and 60s or the transition to neoliberalism under the right, in the late 70s / early 80s? The answer is obvious, but they won't give it for (also) obvious reasons.

  11. And their media propaganda campaign also fails to direct popular anger at the elite level, which is where the actual changes that have destroyed British society have occurred, and instead aims it squarely at the various mobs of immigrants— who are bad enough, obviously, and need to go back to where they came from, but are not the ones actually responsible for that situation.

The people responsible would be the various powerful interest groups in charge of British society, who import 3rd world labor in order to maximize their profits. And who saddle the middle and working classes with the bill, as welfare spending skyrockets in order to maintain the massive imported slave class.

But online edgelords are nerds, and nerds can never punch up and actually confront the powerful— too dickless and pathetic.

So the edgelords will snicker smugly at black people, the browns, the inferior subhumans with their bestial ways (as opposed to emaciated repulsive pale online weirdos, who represent a higher order species), while patting themselves on the back for being nihilistic iconoclasts— only to descend into agitation and anger, the second you point out how degenerate and decadent the elites have become, and why they must be the ones to pay the price for ruining society.

And in the biggest ironic twist of them all, the elites themselves also basically live like ghetto blacks and immigrants— chronically dependent on gov't handouts (QE— trillions printed out of thin air), doing no productive work, refusing to show any stewardship over the nation, while spending their time doing hard drugs! Identical twins seperated at birth.

  12. The above on dynamic systems, complexity, ecology / biology, is really a great example of the pretentious faggot approach of Millennials (and I'm guessing any Zoomers who are dumb enough to look up to these pseuds as role models)-- they paint themselves as high IQ geniuses gifted with clairvoyance, and then turn out to not know anything about the subjects they talk about.

And by 'not know anything', I'm not referring to hidden knowledge that is only found in rare / expensive books, whose existence is known only to a handful of experts-- and which normies and others are understandably ignorant of. I'm talking about the very basic ABCs of whatever subject they're lecturing on, which anyone should know, and which makes their ignorance totally inexcusable. Really, a testament to what endless fake trophies do to a person's ego.

So, more concretely, the moron essentially dismisses or is ignorant of the entirety of 20th century scientific progress in the fields he routinely talks about, since I guess learning math or theory is beneath him (at a certain point in the IQ test, you are so smart that you can just figure out the truth instinctively, or from first principles) — and then he wonders why he consistently arrives at the wrong outcomes, while failing to impress anyone with a modicum of knowledge or experience or intelligence. Maybe if more time were devoted to learning, and less to pretentious masturbation...

Then you factor in the fact that the anti-curious nerds, aside from not knowing anything, have also insulated themselves from any negative feedback— instead of learning from the world, they declare that the world is not worth learning from, and disregard anyone that isn't a part of their incestuous and retarded circlejerk. The only way that is left to learn, with this mindset, is through repeated and inevitable collisions against reality, the most painful and brutal way of acquiring experience— an outcome that has become inevitable, thanks to the retards' smug and self-satisfied attitude.

A lesson to learn, for younger generations-- never take advice from Millennials! (In fact, bully them and cut their egos down to size— they could use it!)
